Is it Enough Just to Know Facts About Christ?

To know truth and to know Christ is not the same thing. Many Christians have been taught that only knowing truth and facts about Christ is enough. Is that true? No. Sad to say, many Christians DO try to come to truth by other ways and in most cases we don't do it on purpose and don't realize our error.

What happens is we believe by just gathering facts and opinions of the things of God, that will make us knowledgeable. But no matter how much you gather facts, memorize Scripture, read your Bible, nothing changes, so you feel like giving up. We can't know Christ by just knowing the facts about him. Imagine pouring lemonade into a cup that has no bottom. No matter how long you pour, you’ll never get a sip because of that leaky cup. Ah, the futility! That's what it's like when all we do is gather facts about Jesus or receive information about Christ.

What happens to the FACTS and INFORMATION when trials and troubles hits? The FACTS will never enable you to stand, they were never meant to. There's more than just knowing facts ABOUT Christ, we have to, "learn Christ." (Ephesians 4:20)

Why can we be so easily deceived about the basic foundation of knowing Christ? There're many reasons but to be "tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive." (Ephesians 4:14)

This is mind boggling to think of all the Christian books, CD's, and courses on how to live the Christian life, and what it means to live the Christian life - only to be led astray from personally knowing Christ. Of course THEY say they have the secret to what it means to know Christ. But, do they?

Some who peddle their cunning craftiness don't know Christ for themselves so how can they lead you to know Christ?

"Then we will no longer be like babies. We will not be people who are always changing like a ship that the waves carry one way and then another. We will not be influenced by every new teaching we hear from people who are trying to deceive us—those who make clever plans and use every kind of trick to fool others into following the wrong way." Ephesians 4:14

Many of us don't KNOW HIM and have never been told we are supposed to KNOW HIM! I hope you see what I'm saying because according to Jesus Himself, and according to so much of the NT, the direct ministry of the Holy Spirit - the PURPOSE of God - is to reveal Christ so that we can personally KNOW HIM. This Christianity 101.

After coming to Christ, there is nothing more necessary than KNOWING Jesus Christ in an inward, personal way. For example, when I worked in retail, we were taught to spot a counterfeit bill. We didn't study the counterfeit bills but studied the REAL currency. It is only if you know the REAL and the TRUE that you will be able to immediately spot the false and won't be tossed to and fro.

The only protection against the sleight of men and cunning craftiness in this day and age is the Truth of God in Jesus Christ. You have to personally KNOW JESUS CHRIST for yourself! Then and only then can you know what is NOT of Christ. Remember what Paul said, "that IN CHRIST are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge."

Here's a challenge for you. Try to know the truth without knowing Jesus Christ - the one who said, "I am the Truth." From personal experience you'll end up in the ditch of delusion. I had a religious mind but not a spiritual mind until I "learned Christ". Like Paul the apostle, I want to know him. In Christ alone is true knowledge possible.
